Busby Berkeley's Dream

Physicists have the coolest idioms, members. The lyricism of 'allotropic forms' and 'curvilinear motion'; the succint brashness of 'atom' and 'sonic boom'; the sci-fi mystery of 'photon' and 'quanta' - it all screams of art more than just nerd terms. Take 'syzygy' - the alignment of three or more celestial bodies in the same gravitational system along a plane. It's an electric word to say and great concept to find. Because no sooner do you have three bodies aligned than you got the makings of chorus line, a verifiable slot machine victory, a Busby Berkeley extravaganza. This week it might be tough to reach the critical mass of three, but once you get there - shazam - a celestial alignment worthing of the stage, the gamble, and the public. Start stretching for your high kick.
