Just what the hell does it mean to be a 'producer' anyway, members? It's a particularly nebulous title, indicating either absolutely nothing or absolutely everything. The film industry is famous for bestowing said respectable on anyone with a buck or two whereas the music industry likes to keep its producers well behind soundproof doors - even if they are wholly responsible for the sound (think 'Bat out of Hell' and you think Meatloaf, not Todd Rundgren; Thriller, Michael Jackson not Quincy Jones.) But at its most basic, to be a producer means to be the entity that points and says, "Psst. Check it out." This week your instructions are clear: keep pointing. It means both nothing and everything.
